Sony Ericsson previews W880 Walkman Phone


Sony Ericsson today shared official photographs of its latest Walkman phone. Sony Ericsson W880 Walkman phone will blend good looks with all of the music-centred features that fans have come to expect from the Walkman phone family.
More than 15 million Walkman phones have been sold since the introduction of the first Walkman phone, the W800, in August 2005.
The W880 will launch within the first half of 2007 when more details will be provided.

Apple iPhone to Generate Nearly 50 Percent Margin


Each Apple iPhone sold will generate nearly a 50 percent gross margin for Apple Inc. and partner Cingular Wireless, giving the companies a hefty profit, as well as plenty of room for future price cuts, according to a preliminary functional Bill of Materials (BoM) estimate created by iSuppli Corp.
"iSuppli estimates the 4Gbyte version of the Apple iPhone will carry a $229.85 hardware BoM and manufacturing cost and a $245.83 total expense, yielding a 49.3 percent margin on each unit sold at the $499 retail price," . "Meanwhile, the 8GByte Apple iPhone will sport a $264.85 hardware cost and a $280.83 total expense, amounting to a 46.9 percent margin at the $599 retail price."

Pantech Selects Synaptics' MobileTouch Solution for Mobile Phones


Synaptics Incorporated announced that its MobileTouch capacitive sensing technology has been incorporated in Pantech’s PT-S280 and PT-K2800 mobile phones. Pantech is using a 4-button MobileTouch solution on the exterior of these phones for quick accessibility and control of popular Multimedia on Demand (MOD) functions.
The ultra-thin MobileTouch sensor replaces mechanical buttons and allows the user to easily manipulate controls. LEDs illuminate the touch sensitive buttons on the topside of the phones.

Nokia N77 starts shipping


Finland is the first to experience optimized mobile TV with the Nokia N77 multimedia computer. Later this month also Vietnam and India will start shipments of the Nokia N77. Consumers will now be able to keep up to date with news and sports and enjoy their favorite TV shows live on the move.

Xperia X1 launch date confirmed


Sony Ericsson announces 30 September 2008 as the official launch date for the highly anticipated Xperia X1 – initially available to consumers in the UK, Germany and Sweden. The handset will be available in other markets across Europe, Asia and Latin America throughout Q4 2008.
To start the countdown to the launch of Xperia X1, Sony Ericsson will host a live global webcast on September 15 at 13:00 GMT + 1, offering viewers the first in-depth demonstration of the handset. The web cast will also premiere the first episode of an alternative reality thriller Johnny X. Motorola QA1 Karma, Sony Ericsson C905a and Samsung i637 confirmed for AT&T

Thanks to a leaked AT&T rebate sheet, we now have the confirmation that the largest North American GSM carrier will release the following phones: Motorola QA1 Karma, Sony Ericsson C905a and Samsung Jack i637.
Appeared over at BGR, the rebate sheet doesn’t disclose the exact release dates of said phones, but we know they should come to AT&T between May 11 and June 21 (just like the Samsung a177, also unveiled today).

AT&T Attracts Samsung’s Slab-Style Magnet

Today Samsung and AT&T announced the availability of the Samsung Magnet, which was first announced in March. The Magnet is a bar-style QWERTY messaging phone with quad-band GSM/EDGE radios. It comes with a VGA camera, Bluetooth, one-touch access to messaging features, and support for Java applications. The Magnet is available online and via select retailers starting today for $20 after rebates with new agreement.

Samsung’s Alias 2 Lands at Verizon Wireless

Today Samsung and Verizon Wireless announced the Alias 2. The Alias 2 (U750) is a second take on the original messaging phone that brings with it a major revision to the QWERTY keyboard. It retains the dual-hinge, but uses e-ink for the keyboard rather than traditional buttons. When the Alias 2 is opened like a traditional clamshell, the e-ink shows a regular numeric dialpad. When it is opened sideways, the e-ink transforms into a full QWERTY keyboard. The Alias 2 also has a 2 megapixel camera with video capture, Bluetooth with A2DP support, visual voicemail, and support for 16GB microSD cards. The Alias 2 is available today for $80 after rebates with new agreement.
